Weconducted three experiments of long-term transient simulations driven by differentclimatic forcings for the past 300,000 years, including an orbital-forcing-onlyexperiment (O), an orbital forcing plus greenhouse gases forcing experiment (OG)and a full-forcing experiment (OGI) with further addition of global ice sheets forcing. We comparatively studied the roles of astronomical insolation, greenhouse gases andglobal ice volume in the orbital-scale EastAsia winter monsoon (EAWM)evolution. The simulation results show that the orbital-scale variations of the East Asia winter monsoon (EAWM) havelatitude dependence. The EAWM intensity index is defined as the meridional wind speeds at 850hPa in winter over the East Asia region (25–50°N and 105–125°E),we calculate a variant of this EAWM index by considering variations across 5° latitude bins to explore how the EAWM varies at different latitudes.
